Advise Needed on Independent Hosting Sites

Hello Fellow Bloggers!

I have been juggling and struggling lately with my wordpress site.

I have used my 3 GB  storage and I have no where to go. I keep deleting old post pics and make some space but that won’t last either.

Please please please suggest me the independent hosting sites that you people are using and are happy with. Mine is a picture heavy blog and I would like to keep it that way.

What are my options? And how to go about it? Has anybody used the independent hosting via wordpress? Good or bad?

Look forward to your inputs and tips!

Cheers ❤️

Sonal

  1. I am self-hosted with Bluehost, using a paid premium WP theme. If you decide to go with them, send me a message over at my website or on Facebook (I don’t often check wordpress.com anymore), and I can help you out with the transition.

    1. So do you think that you have lost the blogger companionship since you have moved to independent hosting? Do you mind it or okay with it? Is it letting you increase your viewership and audience at least?

      1. Well, yes, a little bit. For example, I never see YOU around anywhere on my blog anymore =) But other people have stuck around, which is really nice. And since I don’t need wordpress.com anymore, I find it hard to come here and visit, although I am trying to get better about that. But they say that once you switch to self-hosting, it’s almost like starting all over again building an audience. But I’ve had a lot more opportunities come my way. And I can do whatever I want on my blog with no restrictions. WP.com is so limiting. And yeah, my viewership has actually gone up, and I hope it keeps rising.

  2. You could pay wordpress to upgrade your storage space – WPs are far superior to any other place and it is really easy. Once you pay for that you have so much huge amount of space.

  4. I delete my older posts every couple of months. (In truth I use to post my own recipes but I never have enough readers to continue to do that. So I re-blog others recipes.) Delete your posts from your first couple of months. You will have more then enough space.

  6. Oh, losing space is a bummer.
I am using HostGator for my website, but it is hard to recommend it to you when I have designed my own website and I can fix most issues that arrise by myself.
As for WordPress, when I run out of space, I will delete stuff to make it, which I know is a bad and not viable option in your case.
I do hope you find the best solution and that I can keep reading your posts!

  8. Hi.. So I use big daddy’s WordPress package.. The package is customised for WordPress users. It is hassle free, without all the burden of a self hosted website.. The back end is just like your WordPress one, with great plugins and millions of other options through which you can promote your blog. Do ping me your email address so that I can share more details with you.

      1. I don’t know CSS and don’t know much HTML, but I would eventually like more control over my blog. My brother is a computer genius and may host for me at some point if I can get on track…

I picked wordpress because that’s what I started with and stayed because it was expedient. What I don’t like is the changes they’ve made recently with the dumbed down editor that doesn’t allow you to do certain things easily – change the url of a post, send trackbacks & pingbacks and doesn’t work effectively with tags. I also don’t like several aspects of their stats – for instance on the new stats page the end numbers of the pinterest pins don’t show up. Each has to be opened to see what pin is driving traffic to the site.

These changes are inconvenient and cause a lot of scrolling which I don’t like and are slow. This has all fallen on deaf ears – from googling I know there are massive amounts of people that feel the same way, and all is implemented with no forewarning.

I don’t know if other platforms are any different or any better, just that I am not as satisfied with wordpress as I was when I opted into the package in (I think it was) December. I felt like I bought one thing and was given something else w/o any say in it.

  10. When I exhausted my 3GB, I paid and got more from wordpress since I was not ready to make the big move to independent hosting. So that’s an option for you.

    1. Dhanya,
That’s my beat bet for now since I am not tech savy at all!! I want to put my energy into creating recipes and blogging instead of getting occupied with tech nitty gritties.
Are you happy with it? Which one did you go for? $99.00 one?

      1. No Sonal, I think there was one for much lesser (cant recall how much as I did it last year); that gives a lot of storage space and will last for years. But I am working on getting my own website too but giving it to professionals instead of doing it myself.

  12. If you upgrade to wordpress premium pkg for $99 you get free domain registration, no ads, 13GB, can post videos. I think there is trail offer if you want tocheck it out and see if works for you. You wont need to change anything.

      1. Hi Sonal, Yes. They have a WP publishing option. So you will be in a similar environment.

One reason I am opting for them is cost. WP by itself is very expensive as a hosting platform.

  14. I need to check on my storage situation on wordpress, now you got me thinking. I don’t think I could host my own site not savvy enough. Will be looking to see what others do.

  16. I did tho big jump a couple of months ago… I have to tell you that I’m not getting as much commit as I used to get, but I’m happy anyway… One of my friend took care of everything, I’m going to ask him and I will be back to you soon!
