Kid Friendly Milk Shakes : 3 Recipes, some healthy and some for fun! Strawberry Shake, Chocolate Shake and Ice-Cream Shake

April 17, 2014 by Leave a Comment

Do you encounter the same fix every time, when your child returns back from school…tired and deployed of energy and super hungry? Well I do and my daughter returns back at 4 p.m every evening. Then there is a run around for homework, this class and that class. With little time in hand to feed her something substantial and nutritious, I have started making her these healthy milk shakes. Yes, chuck that ice cream one out. That’s for week end fun :). When I say healthy, I mean they are made with skim or 2% milk, banana as a main carb and sugar component, almond meal for extra protein and goodness, honey if you need it to be more sweet and the choice of her favorite “other” ingredient like Strawberries or chocolate. Well the possibilities are endless with that kind of base drink. You may add mango, blackberries, blueberries, some toasted oats or other kinds of ground nuts.

Strawberry Shake

Ingredients :
Milk : 1 cup, 2% or skim
Banana : 1 small or 1 cup, sliced
Almond Meal : 1 tbsp
Honey : to taste, optional
Strawberries : 1/2 cup, chopped
Method :
Put everything in the blender. Blitz till everything comes together. Pour in a glass. If you want, then add 1-2 tbsp of fresh whipped cream on top. Add a straw and a great refreshing and awesome milk shake is ready for your champ in no time :).

Chocolate Shake

Ingredients :
Milk : 1 cup, 2% or skim
Banana : 1 small or 1 cup, sliced
Almond Meal : 1 tbsp
Honey : to taste, optional
Coco powder, unsweetened : 1 tsp
Method :
Put everything in the blender. Blitz till everything comes together. Pour in a glass. If you want, then add 1-2 tbsp of fresh whipped cream on top. Sprinkle a bit of chocolate powder. Add a straw and another great refreshing and an awesome milk shake is ready for your champ in no time :).

Ice-Cream Shake

Ingredients :
Milk : 1 cup, 2% or skim
Vanilla or Chocolate Ice cream (All natural) : 1 big scoop full
Banana : 1/2 small, sliced
Almond Meal : 1 tbsp
Whipped Cream : for topping
Coco powder, unsweetened : for dusting on top
Method :
Put everything in a blender besides whipped cream and coco powder. Blitz till everything comes together. Pour in a glass. Top with whipped cream, coco powder and any fruit of your choice. This makes for one good afternoon snack for kids over the weekend and yes, you can steal a bite or two also ;).

Note : The best part about these shakes is that your kids can make these goodies themselves :). Isn’t that fantastic!
