Tutorial for How to Dye Easter Eggs Naturally in Instant Pot

Easter marks the beginning of spring, flowers, and bunnies for me. Though it is still cold & wet here in Pittsburgh, I am still hopeful about the warm sunny days.

Every year, my husband plans a private Egg Hunt for the girls in our backyard. That’s his thing with the girls.

Since we have moved recently and the yard is not prepped at all, we are going for the public event.

What are the Basic Ingredients used in Dying the Easter Eggs Naturally?

I would say, any natural ingredients that are known for imparting natural color.

Like in this case, I have used Turmeric to get that beautiful golden color on the eggs. Similarly, blueberries, red cabbage, red onion peels, etc are commonly known to be used in dyeing the Easter Eggs Naturally.

For this particular NATURAL YELLOW DYED EASTER EGGS, following 2 main ingredients are used.

Why should you use Natural Ingredients to Dye Easter Eggs in Instant Pot?

I had been experimenting with natural ingredients to DYE EASTER EGGS in Instant Pot. After reading and watching a few tutorials, I decided to go with the surest ingredient – TURMERIC or TUMERIC. The experiment was successful and am delighted to share here.

I completely support using Natural Ingredients like Turmeric to dye the eggs to celebrate Easter & Spring.

  1. The natural dyeing process makes the eggs still edible. That ensures NO WASTAGE, which I support completely.
  2. I got perfect HARD BOILED EGGS for the timing I used. Which not only gave the desired beautiful color to the eggs and still left them edible.
  3.  Since it takes just 10 minutes in Instant Pot, these are so easy to make on Easter Morning for breakfast.
  4. Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs are so pretty to look at. You can use these as CENTER TABLE DECOR for your EASTER BREAKFAST TABLE.
  5. I am going to do both as suggested above – use these as Center Table Decor and Eat them too. Fun, right?

How to dye Easter Eggs in Instant Pot?

It is a fairly simple process. Watch the video below for better understanding.

To dye Eggs in Instant Pot, you need – Instant Pot and White Eggs of course.

Following are the steps –

  1. Dissolve Turmeric and Distilled White Vinegar in a bowl.
  2. Place the inner pot inside the Instant Pot. Plug it in.
  3. I used PIP that is Pot in Pot method. Where I placed a Stackable Pot inside the liner. You may place the eggs directly in the Inner Pot. Or use IP Egg Rack.
  4. If you are making this directly in the main inner pot, then add the turmeric and vinegar mix to the pot. Now add 1 cup of water and mix well.
  5. If you are using a PIP method, then first add 1 cup water in the main inner pot. Then place the smaller pot inside. And follow steps from step 4.
  6. Add eggs to the pot. Fill the pot with water just enough to cover the top of the eggs.
  7. Close the lid and set the valve to SEALING.
  8. Press Manual/Pressure Cook and set it on HIGH/MORE for 10 minutes.
  9. When the timer beeps, follow QR (Quick Pressure Release).
  10. Open the lid, remove the eggs carefully from the Pot. Give them a quick bath in cold water. They are ready.
  11. Now they are ready to peel and eat. Or use them as Easter Table Center Decor. Or do both as shown in the main picture above.

Can we eat Dyed Easter Eggs?

There is a time window in which you can certainly consume these.

After boiling the Eggs, they are good to be eaten within 2 hours time window.

Or refrigerate the eggs before the 2 hours window expires.

Anytime after that, do not eat these eggs at room temperature.

I actually peeled and stored the eggs in the refrigerator to use them in a curry later.

Eggs boil perfectly with the timing I used and peel off easily as well.

I cooked them for 10 minutes on High Pressure and followed Quick Pressure Release.

I contemplated time a lot since 5-5-5 is a commonly followed method for hard-boiled eggs. But to my pleasant surprise, 10 minutes and QR worked really well.

The eggs peeled easily as well.

How to create CENTER TABLE DECOR with DYED EGGS?

I have used Egg Carton, Dyed Eggs, of course, Colorful Confetti from the DOLLAR STORE and Chocolate Eggs to create simple & colorful decor.

Use the emptied egg carton. Fill up the small egg holes in it with colorful confetti. Place the mini chocolate eggs and dyed eggs in these holes alternatively.

Create 1-2 of these and place them in the middle of the Breakfast Table. Cute, right?
