How to make Pumpkin Puree in Instant Pot?
Instant Pot Pumpkin Puree
Equipment
- Chopping Board
- Knife
- Fork
- Instant Pot Trivet
- Inner Pot for IP
Ingredients
- 1 2.7 pounds PUMPKIN (pie pumpkin also known as sugar pumpkin)
Instructions
- We recommend that you read the whole post. It has many tips and suggestions.
- First of all place the trivet inside the Instant Pot and plug it in. Place the trivet inside the inner pot. Add 1 cup of water to it.
- Wash and clean the pumpkin thoroughly. Cut off the attached stem.
- Place your Sugar or Pie Pumpkin on the trivet.
- Close with the lid. Set the valve on SEALING. Press PRESSURE COOK MODE and set it on High for 17 minutes.
- PRO TIP - This pressure cook mode time will vary depending upon the weight of the pumpkin. Most of the time it takes about 15 minutes for a 2.5 pound pumpkin to cook thoroughly. my 2.7 pound pumpkin took about 17 minutes. And 3 pound pumpkin might take 20 minutes. A 4 pound pumpkin might take about 30 minutes. So decide upon the timing as per the weight of the pumpkin.
- Once the timer goes off, follow NPR (natural pressure release). Now test if the pumpkin is cooked thoroughly by piercing a knife through the cooked pumpkin. If it goes through smoothly, it is cooked. If not, then cook for 2 more minutes and repeat.
- Take out the pumpkin and cut it from one side. It will peel off like butter. The shell of the pumpkin will slide off easily.
- Now take a fork and remove the seeds and fiber from the middle of the pumpkin.
- You can save the seeds and clean the fiber. Dry them out and bake. Eat as a healthy snack.
- On the other hand, take the flesh of the pumpkin. Cool it and blend it in a blender with some water till it runs into a smooth puree. I did not do that. Rather I used a fork and mashed it down to a thick puree/pulp.
- It is ready to be stored and used as needed.
