Easy Home-made Instant Pot Apple Cider Recipe

Apple Cider means Autumn in every sip. It is sweet & tart in flavors with a very smooth texture. I use a mix of Red Delicious Apples and Grannysmith Apples to create balanced flavors.

Now my kids love Apple Cider and we bought it often from the market. Once I realized that you can make it at home in Instant Pot, we topped buying it from the market. And I promise that it is so much better when made at home. You can addjust the flavors and spices to your liking. The best part is that you can control the sugar content as well. Normally folks use regular sugar in the recipe, I used Monkfruit sweetener to sweeten it. Monkfruit sweetener is a natural plant derivative with zero calorie count.

It is a keeper recipe. The flavors become more intense as it sits. Easy to store. We love drinking it warmed up.

It is naturally Gluten-free and Vegan.

Health Benefits of Apple Cider

It offers pulp and sediment that will contain fiber. Drinking apple cider can help increase your daily dietary fiber intake to improve digestion and lower blood cholesterol. Fiber also helps you feel full and may suppress the appetite.

The Cider is an awesome deal for your sore throat. It is rich in Vitamic C and anti-oxidants.

What are the ingredients of Home-made Apple Cider?

All you need are handful ingredients to make this recipe. The chances are that you already have these ingredients at home. Now that will skip a trip to the grocery store.

Apples – You can take Red delicious apples, Gala Apples, Grannysmith Apples or a mix of 2 or 3 apples for this recipe. You can either remove the skin or keep the skin on. I peeled the skin off the apples and cored them. CORING the apples is necessary step.

Oranges – Oranges add citrus flavors and enhances the over all flavor of the Cider. Many folks use Lemons as well. It is your choice.

Ginger – Now Ginger is not a traditional ingredient. But I love using ginger in my recipes for its crisp flavor, medicinal properties. Therefore it is optional for you if you want to use it or not.

Cranberries – This is another Holiday Berry that is so popular during holiday season. Cranberries are rich in anti-oxidants as well. These add to the beneficial properties of the Cider.

Cinnamon & Cloves – I love using cinnamon and cloves in my cider. Both the spices fill the cider with warmth & intensity.

Sweetener – Now if you are ok, then you can skip the added sweetener or sugar to the cider. It is sweet enough if you are ok with natural sweetness. But if you want your cider to be sweeter, then go ahead and add the sweetener of your choice. My favorite sweetener is MONKFRUIT SWEETNER. You can use regular sugar, brown sugar, maple syrup, honey etc to sweeten it.

How to make Apple Cider in Instant Pot?

Watch the attached video for better understanding of the whole process.

Preparing fruits for the Cider

Wash Apples, Oranges, & Cranberreis thoroughly in a Kitchen Colander. Now Peel and Core (remove the middles and seeds) the Apples. Qaurter them. You can opt for not peeling the apples if you want. I peel mine since I am not sure about all the chemicals from pesticides that stay on top even after washing.

Now Peel the Oranges and quarter these as well.

Scrape the skin of the ginger and slice it.

Cooking fruits in Instant Pot

Take the Inner Pot and add prepared apples, oranges, cranberries, ginger, Cinnamon & Cloves and SWEETNER of choice. Add 5 cups of water. Give a good stir.

Place Inner pot inside the Instant Pot and plug it in. Close the lid and lock it. Press the PRESSURE COOK button and set it on high for 20 minutes.

When the timer goes off, follow NPR (natural pressure release). Open the lid carefully. The fruits are well cooked and super soft now.

Pureeing / Mashing Fruits

For this step, you can either use Hand held immersion blender or Potato Masher to mash/puree the fruit pulp. Mash it fine or puree it fine for the maximum benefits of the fiber in the cider. Taste check for sweetness and add more sweetner 0r sugar as needed.

Straining and Storing

Now take a large bowl and place a Kitchen fine mesh Strainer on top. Pour cooked fruit through the strainer 1 cup at a time and push it hard through strainer with the back of Kitchen stirring spoon. Get as much juice as possible out of the fruit.

Further for storing, cool it to the room temperature. Pour it in refrigerator friendly glass jar with lid. Refrigerate.

Serve

You can drink it either cold or warm in mugs. My kids enjoy it both ways. When you want to drink it warm, then you can either heat it up on the gas top or in the microwave.
